2010 AALAS Conference

It’s hard to believe a year has gone by since my last visit to the annual AALAS conference but there’s no avoiding the truth as I’m now at 32,000 feet on my way to Atlanta for this year’s edition of the show. Last year was my first time and it was interesting to see the wide variety of exhibitors showing their wares big and small. On the large end, I saw massive automated feeding and cleaning systems and on the small end I was amazed at the grain-of-rice size RFID chips designed to be injected under the skin of individual mice.

Of course, my main job was to meet as many people as I could and talk to them about how a Click Commerce based solution could benefit them – yeah, I know, an engineer pretending to be a salesman. Weird, huh? It’s good to get out every once in a while though.

This year, I have some very specific goals. I still want to meet as many of you as I can, but as we continue to build out our newest solution, my need for specifics has become more important. For example, how do you think about the relationship between the unit by which you count census and the individual animal? Would you consider individual animal history for all species a part of Animal Operations, or separate but related? Every conversation is useful in helping to shape our efforts. If you’re at the show, please stop by and “give me a piece of your mind” or ask to borrow a piece of mine.

If you aren’t able to attend but are curious about anything, post a comment and let me know. I’m happy to be your eyes and ears in the exhibit hall.

Cheers!
